DOG DAY DOC

Tomorrow night I’m hosting a fiftieth anniversary screening of ‘Dog Day Afternoon’, Sidney Lumet’s terrific 1975 ‘fiasco flick’ starring Al Pacino. (What is a ‘fiasco flick’ you ask? A movie about a crime that goes instantly wrong at the very opening and which you then watch in horrified delight as the whole mess unravels. ‘Fargo’ is probably the best of this genre after this one’. If you’ve never seen ‘Dog Day Afternoon’, cease  all viewing activities immediately and fire up your Amazon Prime subscription. Below is a ten minute documntary on the making of the film. You get great views of Lumet and Pacino at work and the vibe of mid-70s New York filmmaking. I have no idea what the docs exact purpose was–it doesn’t appear to have been made for television and DVD extras were many decades away from existence. Enjoy both the doc and the movie…
