LET’S NOT MAKE ‘LET’S MAKE LOVE’

We move from the previous two posts featuring Marilyn’s delightfully polished and alluring musical numbers in ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘Let’s Make Love’, to her nadir. It too is from ‘Lets Make Love’, but there are multiple issues with it that frankly make it something of an embarrassment to watch. First is the material, a song called ‘Specialization’ (or something iike that) which is so sub-par is amazing it made into any musical movie, much less a big-budget star vehicle such as this. Then there’s the presence of the mysterious Frankie Vaugh, a singer/actor (emphasis on the former) who’s always looked to me like a cross between Tony Curtis and Roy Cohn. And then there’s Marilyn who, forgive me, seems zonked on pills and not at all happy to be there–assuming she knew where she was to begin with. Why watch this? I don’t know. Let’s call it a ‘compare and contrast’ excercise. Then lets go back and watch Sugar Kane perform ‘Running Wild‘ and enjoy as she delivers us ‘My Heart Belongs To Daddy’ on a silver platter.
