Yesterday I posted the much-beloved ‘Haw Haw’ song used in a Levi Jeans commercial from the mid-1970s. Naturally this provoked YouTube to drop a dumpster full of 70s TV commercials into my queue. I’m glad they did. First up was the above classic which I couldn’t wait to share with you. It’s the ‘Time For Milk’ jingle from about the same period as the Levi’s ad. The track is beautifully produced, with a fine male lead singer (whose name is not being coughed up by the internet–at least not yet), a grooving back-beat, a cinched-up-tight girls group backing and–most importantly–one of the most revered drum breaks of its era. It covers the 15th and 16th bars just prior to the coda/tag and I recall jazz drummers often practicing it, seeing if they could emulate the immaculately timed multi-drum breakdown descent. The drummer’s name is also lost to history, though something tells me there’s a music geek out there somewhere who knows his identity.
