Here’s a clip from another marvelous Dick Cavett show featuring Sir John Gielgud giving a very thoughtful and sincere recounting of his work with Marlon Brando on the film version of ‘Julius Caesar’. There are no histrionics, no bad-temper revelations–in short, no dish. Just a very thoughtful and articulate actor on a fellow craftsperson and what he saw as Brando’s gifts and shortcomings, related without rancor or smugness. Gielgud is the Acting Teacher I wish I’d once had, even though I’ve never taken an acting class. Perhaps I was waiting for Gielgud? You’ll see what I mean when you watch.
