Athlete’s are athletic types, as we know. And athletic types often express themselves athletically. Hence the occasional meltdown in professional sports, wherein an organized game of athletic endeavor devolves into a street brawl that can’t be contained. Witness the above 1960 boxing match as captured by British Pathe, featuring a champ Brit boxer with the very un-boxerish name of Brian London–it sounds more like the name of a prestigious BBC talk show host than a pugilist. The narrator’s chipper, wholly unsuitable manner of delivery gives the proceedings a Monty Pythonesque air that makes the in-ring meltdown weirdly amusing rather than revoltingly nasty.
