This is aviation week here in my world and as a result I am going to drag all my readers (both of you) through the AvGeek muck with me. The reason for this is that on Wednesday my son and I will be going to the AirVenture convention in Oshkosh, WI. to join thousands of other aviation freaks at the worlds largest gathering of planes, flyers, airplane manufacturers and vintage plane and warbird collectors in the world. Naturally this requires a sort of omni-hyper-focus so all posts will be plane related. But don’t worry! They’ll also be fun. Let us commence, then, with some 1920s silent footage of ‘wing-walkers’ stunting on top of a biplane. The camera filming them is on another plane slightly above them so we get to see the ground that’s far underneath them, making their stunts a truly nauseating experience. It’s not the walking that really does it, though. It’s the hanging upside down off the wings bit that churns my stomach. Since the footage is silent I’ve provided another youtube clip to be played as accompanying audio. It’s a 1912 recording of a song called ‘The Aeroplane Glide’. Simply begin both videos at the same time and they will sync up incredibly well. As they are both three minutes the whole thing should work out just swell enough to repeat every day this week. Sorry…
