SATURDAY STOOGE-FEST

‘We Want Our Mummy’ (1939) was the 37th short subject made by The Three Stooges for Columbia Pictures. It was photographed from Tuesday, November 1 through Friday, November 4, 1938 and released on Friday, Feb 24, 1939. It’s one of the best, most assured and fastest paced prime Curly-era shorts directed by Del Lord and features a couple of fun topical references including a mention the 1938 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs and the biggest hit tune of the year, Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘A Ticket A Tasket’. Curly’s swim in the ‘mirage pond’ is a brilliant bit of pantomime and King Rootin’-Tootin’ and Queen Hotsy-Totsy are the best names for Hip Hop artists that have never been used. Enjoy.
