‘SEND IN A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC’; A SONDHEIM-WEBBER MASH-UP

Here’s a thoroughly charming vid/cip of Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber doing a piano/vocal duet at a tribute to Cameron Mackintosh. The number is a mash-up of ‘Send In The Clowns’ and ‘Music Of The Night’ with special lyrics by Sondheim celebrating Mackintosh, the best line of which is the opening line (‘Isn’t he rich?…) The two men seem charmed to be working together. Any sort of ‘rivalry’, as has been referenced by others, is absurd. They are both giants occupying very different land masses. Oddly, Sondheim–who can appear a bit recessive and self-protective in performance environments–comes across as a supremely confident Broadway belter when compared to Webber, who is charmingly (and a bit sadly) awkward. In fact, Webber reminds me of the kid in Junior High whose locker you slammed just as he was opening it. I wonder why I still have feelings for that poor kid…
