WEEKEND STOOGEFEST

Let’s take a break from the usual weekend Three Stooges two-reeler. Instead, we’ll listen to an audio-only interview with Moe Howard, recorded in 1973. I don’t know who the interviewer is but, aside from an awkward start, he does an admirable job of stepping back and letting the very friendly and amusing Moe tell anecdotes. Moe certainly sounds like the Moe we know only minus the angry edge–it’s as if the Moe in the movies was finally given the right medication which turned him into an articulate mensch. Around this same time Larry Fine, then confined to a wheelchair after a stroke, was living at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, California. He welcomed visitors of all ages and guess what? I went out and met him! We hung in his room for awhile until his next visitor showed up. It was Babe London, a wonderful old comedienne who played the fat chick in many slapstick comedies. If you’re interested in knowing more about my lifelong obsession with the Stooges click here to listen to an episode of my podcast called “My Life As A Stooge”. It explains a lot…perhaps too much…
