A pleasant fellow with an accent that sounds like it’s right out of Mayberry has made a little video tour of the filming locations of ‘The Andy Griffith Show’, the result of a meticulously researched trip he made to Los Angeles. I was rather surprised to find out that the iconic opening credits shot of Andy Griffith and Ron “they called him Ronny then” Howard was shot by the Franklin Canyon Reservoir, just off of Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland Drive, an area designated by real estate people as ‘Beverly Hills Post Office’ (perhaps they might add ‘Mayberry Adjacent’ to the description). A nice tour of the Desilu Gower studios follows, with good shots of the old standing sets. This fellow really did his research and he ends the video with a trip to the cemetery where Don Knotts is buried, paying his respects to the man who was the only reason I faithfully watched the show throughout my childhood. Every subject has it’s expert, I guess.
