One of the greatest of all ear worm TV commercial jingles was the 1970s masterpiece “Hold The Pickles, Hold The Lettuce” written for the fast food giant ‘Burger King’. Why this particular jingle has stuck in the collective minds of those old enough to remember it is a bit of a mystery, but I guarantee you that if you sing the opening line to anyone over the age of fifty, they’ll immediately pick up happily where you left off and sing the rest. Above I’ve posted the original ‘white’ version and below the ‘soul’ (okay, black) version. Listening to them has made me idioitically happy on this glum January 6th anniversary of you-know-what.
