Readers of this blog are perhaps familiar with my obsessive love for the KTTV Channel 11 logos of the 1970s. KTTV was my go-to home channel for my entire youth, with their schedule heavy on old movies (they had the MGM library), the Ben Hunter Matinee every weekday at noon, ‘The Partridge Family’ and ‘I Love Lucy’ every weeknight at dinner time etc. (My parents had the good sense to not insist we eat as a family at the table–they knew I would be itching to get back to my television viewing which was essential to my healthy youthful development). Revisiting the KTTV Metromedia logo can turn a dark day into a bright one and apparently others agree with me. There are a lot of different KTTV logo tributes on YouTube and the above one is a nice addition to the club–I hadn’t seen it before. It features a comparison of four different Metromedia station logos–they’re exactly the same except for the channel number at the end of the jingle. After years of hearing the thrice-repeated “Eleven Eleven Eleven”, it’s jarring–downright disturbing really–to hear it replaced with ‘Five Five Five’. Especially dreadful is the ‘Nineteen Nineteen Nineteen’, with the stress awkwardly placed on the first syllable. The wa-wa guitar pedal is a perfect time-capsule of the era and the weirdly ethereal sound of the singing group still makes me tingle with excitement for what’s to follow. Happy trails to you. And bless you, KTTV, wherever you are…
