SINGING CREDITS, PREMINGER-STYLE

If you ever watched ‘Skidoo’, Otto Premingers 1968 fiasco, and made it all the way to the end then you’d have been treated to what is clearly the film’s highlight–the singing end credits, courtesy of Harry Nillson. Otto’s richly Viennese voice is heard at the beginning of the sequence (‘Before you Skidoo from the theater…’etc)–I admire his optimism in thinking that there’d be anyone left to ‘skidoo’ out of there. A critic–can’t remember which (probably Pauline Kael)–said that not only wasn’t ‘Skidoo’ funny but it appeared to have been directed by a man who’d never seen a comedy. And on that note, I must Skidoo, as lunch awaits…
