Here’s a short but pungent one minute clip of Leonard Bernstein teaching/supervising an orchestra master class with a student conductor who tries to put one over on the band. Lenny’s having none of it and calls the guy out. Rather than hanging his head in shame the poor student conductor stands his ground, albeit in a not very convincing way. Just a nice glimpse of the authoritative Lenny (wearing shades no less), not the children’s classical teacher who I couldn’t bear watching when I was young, or the florid conductor who was always entertaining but often exhausting to experience.
