Last week I posted a compilation video of the 42 shows CBS presented in the 1962 season. I got a surprisingly good response to this trip down show-biz memory lane–largely I think because so many of the shows are forgotten and are thus interesting the way a newly exhumed ancient skeleton might be. The questions are the same: who was he? Why did he die? Why has this fragment of a dead civilization survived? As with these shows, the questions are unanswerable. Here are the 29 shows of NBC’s fall 1962 line up. Titles like ‘Ensign O’Toole’ and ‘It’s A Man’s World’ sit there, forgotten, next to ‘Bonanza’ and ‘The Price Is Right’, calling out from the past: ‘Remember me? Please? Or was I destined from birth to a life sentence of futility and ignominy?’
