Apropos of Monday and Tuesday’s posts, which showed fights breaking out during baseball games as well as at the end of a boxing match, I was going to post a reel of NFL football fights. But isn’t that redundant? After all, the whole point of NFL football is to watch a bunch of large men hurting each other. Whatever fight happens on the field is merely an extension of the game, not like in baseball where the violence is so jarringly at odds with the proceedings. Instead I’ve opted for a reel of NFL football game errors, featuring plays in which either quarterbacks or special teams running backs wind up scrambling backwards for absurd amounts of negative yardage, often resulting in highly-unwanted safety’s.. (You have to click on the ‘Watch On YouTube’ link to view it since the NFL, always on the lookout for ways to make things difficult for their followers, has blocked my ability to share it directly).In addition to all of this, you’ll get a look at one of the most famous mistakes in football history–the Jim Marshall ‘wrong-way’ fumble recovery touchdown. I had a great time watching this earlier as I’m still experiencing football withdrawal. As a longtime NFL junkie, I have to agree with comedian Jim Gaffigan who talked about how disorienting it is having those extra six hours to somehow get through on Sunday’s once the regular season has ended…
